Match Report: Spain 2-0 France

A Xabi Alosno brace was enough for Spain to send listless Les Bleus crashing out of Euro 2012.

Cesc Febregas was selected over Fernando Torres as the latter did not impress in the game against Croatia and the rumored infighting in the French camp gathered more momentum as Samir Nasri was surprisingly benched in the game.

Xabi Alonso opened the scoring for La Roja mid-way through the first half when a fine pass from Jordi Alba assisted Alonso in heading the ball into the net. The first half was dominated by the Spanish except some half chances for the French.

The second half saw some rejuvenating football from the French but certainly lacked creativity. La Roja held on to their solitary goal lead as Les Bleus continued to be wasteful in the Spanish box. The game was balanced until Pedro, a substitute for Spain, fetched a penalty in the stoppage time for his team. Alonso, playing his 100th game in a Spanish shirt, did not make any mistake as he slaughtered a finely taken penalty into the back of the net to seal it for Del Bosque and his team.

Spain will now play Portugal in the semi-final!
